What is a 'concealed weapon'

Sigh, the Louisiana House of Representatives has a reading comprehension problem ! So does the newspaper writer, see article below.

So what is a ‘concealed weapon’?

A. It is unlawful for any person who has been convicted of the crime of domestic abuse battery to possess a firearm or carry a concealed weapon.

To the criminal code…

The criminal code repeatedly refers to the term “firearm or dangerous weapon”. RS 14:95.2 etc.

The term ‘dangerous weapon’ is defined in RS 14.2 to be:

“(3) “Dangerous weapon” includes any gas, liquid or other substance or instrumentality, which, in the manner used, is calculated or likely to produce death or great bodily harm.”

The legislature chose not to define the term ‘weapon’ in it’s latest bill.

Presumably it would be any weapon that is a ‘dangerous weapon’ plus some ‘weapons’ that are ‘likely to produce some bodily harm’.

For a person within this category:

So a cook cannot carry kitchen knives in a container.

A seamstress cannot carry scissors in a container.

A pipe fitter cannot carry a pipe wrench in a container.

A car mechanic cannot carry a a tire iron in a container.

And Chuck Norris cannot put his hands in his pockets.

On the flip side:

The issue then becomes if the weapon is concealed or open.

So these ‘dangerous people’ can open carry a dangerous weapon (say a crossbow) but they cannot conceal the same or possess a fire arm?

That does not make sense !!!

House Bill 753 would make it illegal for anyone to carry a gun if a court has issued a permanent injunction or protective order against them related to a crime of domestic violence. The ban on carrying a gun would be lifted once the court removes the injunction or protective order.

The law would also make it illegal to carry a firearm or concealed weapon by a person convicted of domestic abuse battery, punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000.

Domestic violence convicts would be allowed to start carrying a gun again 10 years after the completion of their sentence.

It passed on a 99-0 vote.”
